The United Nations warned about the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

Pak Sahafat – United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) announced that Afghanistan is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report from TOLO News, the new report of this institution states that the humanitarian crisis affects the achievements of the last twenty years in this country.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) also announced in this report that 17 million people in Afghanistan will face severe hunger in 2023.

The report states: “In the first quarter of 2023 AD, the situation will worsen due to the effects of winter, high food prices, reduced income, unemployment and continued economic recession.”

Shabir Bashiri, an expert on economic issues, said in an interview with TOLOnews: “The lack of economic infrastructure and investment is one of the important factors that has led to an increasing and excessive increase in poverty and humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan in the last two years.”

Some citizens of the capital also said that the cold winter and poverty have multiplied their problems.

The Swiss Development Agency announced that Afghanistan needs help more than ever and that Switzerland will continue its aid to Afghanistan.

Switzerland is one of the countries that provided 33 million dollars annually to Afghanistan; But after coming to power, Taliban stopped its activities in Afghanistan and now it has made a new assessment to start its activities again.

Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister of Economy noted: “We are trying to use these grants to strengthen infrastructure and complete basic projects.”

The OCHA report also states that after the fall of the previous government, the international community’s development aid to Afghanistan, which constituted 74% of the budget including the health sector, has been stopped.
