World Health Organization: The situation in Libya after the storm is catastrophic

Pak Sahafat – The director of emergency affairs of the World Health Organization’s regional office said on Tuesday night that the situation in Libya after the devastating storm in this country is catastrophic.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency report from Al-Jazeera, “Richard Brennan” said: “The situation in Libya in general and especially in the city of “Derna” is catastrophic.

The director of the implementation of emergency affairs of the regional office of the World Health Organization added: We have evaluated the situation, it is shocking and we must act very quickly.

Stating that he did not expect a disaster of this magnitude in Libya, he said: “Rescue operations are continuing and the chances of finding survivors are decreasing.”

Brennan added: “We are concerned about the possibility of the spread of epidemic diseases, especially among children, and our biggest problem in Libya is access to specialized teams to be sent to the affected areas.”

Earlier, Abdulhamid Debibeh, the head of the National Unity Government of Libya, referring to the announcement of the readiness of a number of countries to help this country regarding the recent devastating flood, said: We do not need food and medicine, and we only need specialized search and rescue teams.

He added: Many bodies have gone to the sea with the flood and our problem is how to find and pull them out.

Eastern Libyan cities witnessed the terrible storm “Daniel” on Monday, and due to the extent of the stormed area and the lack of facilities, the Libyan authorities have requested international assistance.

The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity of Libya also announced that more than 5,200 people were killed as a result of the storm in one of the eastern cities of this country.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity of Libya, headed by Fathi Pashagha, announced that more than 5,200 people have lost their lives in the city of “Derna” alone, among the storm-hit cities in eastern Libya.
