What happened in Johnson’s recent meeting with Trump?

Pak Sahafat – Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that during his recent meeting with former US President Donald Trump, who rose to return to power, he emphasized the key role of the United States in arming Ukraine against Russia.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, Johnson, who resigned from the parliament last month due to the accusation of holding illegal parties in the prime minister’s office at the height of the corona restrictions and forever abandoned the dream of returning to power, said in a television interview: “One of the reasons I went to the United States was that American politics is entering the pre-election period, and I wanted to convey the message that the war in Ukraine is very important and that the victory of this country is necessary.”

He added: “I think it is very important to talk to people like Donald Trump to convey the message that Ukraine deserves to win.” In response to the question whether Trump is a threat to Ukraine’s chances of winning the war, the former British Prime Minister said: “Don’t forget who sent the first Javelin missile. It was Donald Trump.”

According to reports, in 2018, the United States authorized the sale of Javelin surface-to-air missiles to Kiev. Johnson said Trump’s military aid enabled Britain to send weapons to Ukraine.

The former British Prime Minister refused to comment on the upcoming US presidential election, adding that regardless of who takes the helm of the White House, the United States will continue to support Ukraine on geopolitical issues.

The news of the meeting between the former leaders of the United Kingdom and the United States at the beginning of June last month made news in the English media. A spokesman for Johnson said at the time that the two sides discussed the situation in Ukraine and the need for the country to win the war with Russia. According to reports, he also met with a number of Republican Party politicians in Texas and former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The former US president previously called Johnson his friend and Trump’s friend. But the political positions of the two sides have diverged in recent years. During his visit to Scotland, Trump said in an interview that Johnson’s behavior changed at some point and took on a liberal face.

Johnson is a supporter of the policy of extending arms support to Ukraine, but Trump has claimed that he would end the war within a day if he returned to the White House. He has not commented on favoring Ukraine or Russia.

Over the past year, America has sent 46.65 billion pounds of weapons to the Kiev front and is the largest military supporter of Ukraine. Britain is also in second place by sending 7.16 billion dollars of military equipment to Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine, which has been over a year since its beginning, was triggered by the West’s inattention to Moscow’s security concerns and the expansion of NATO forces near the borders of Russia. Moscow attacked Ukraine on March 5, 2022 after ignoring its security concerns from the West, especially the United States.

During this period, the member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), including the United States, by abandoning the diplomatic option to establish peace, continued this war-mongering with huge military support from Kiev, and now by equipping Ukraine with more advanced and heavier military weapons, they are openly follow the Kremlin’s policy of provocation.
