Refusing to call Russia an “aggressor” in the war, the former French president said that According to him, the accession of Ukraine to NATO and the European Union, which Kiev has been seeking for years, will not lead to peace, because he believes that “if you bring Ukraine to Europe, you will strengthen the Americans, because the countries of Eastern Europe are dominated by Washington.”

According to Sarkozy, although Ukraine, due to its strong dependence on Washington’s military aid, basically expresses the wishes and opinions of the United States, but this does not apply to the relations between Washington and Paris. Despite emphasizing his request for France’s support for Ukraine, Sarkozy said that in his opinion, Ukraine should eventually receive a security guarantee from the West, but should remain neutral and continue to act as a “bridge between the world of Russia and us”.
