CNN: America is worried about the weakening of Europe’s position against Russia

Pak Sahafat- Following the reduction of Russian gas supply to Europe and the possibility of a gas shortage in winter, a senior official in the field of American energy security traveled to Paris with the aim of emergency planning and due to Washington’s fear of weakening the position of the European Union in front of Russia.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report on Wednesday, quoted by the CNN news network, “Amos Holstein”, the senior advisor of the energy security of the United States, will go to Paris and then to Brussels to discuss the emergency planning of Europe and the United States in the condition of gas shortage in winter.

This news channel reported, quoting American officials, that the Joe Biden administration is worried that the lack of gas caused by the reduction in Russian supply will weaken the European Union against Moscow.

An American official, who did not want to be named, told CNN: The impact of gas shortage on Europe can also affect America and increase the price of gas and electricity, and it will be a big test for the resistance and unity of Europe against Russia.

During the visit of this American official, there is going to be a discussion and exchange of views about ways to increase nuclear energy production. In particular, the US hopes to convince the German government to reconsider its plans to phase out nuclear power and expand the operation of three nuclear power plants.

The Russian energy giant “Gazprom” recently announced that it has to stop the operation of another turbine manufactured by Siemens and its operation must be stopped in order to carry out repairs. This caused the capacity of the “Portovaya” compressor station (on the Baltic Sea coast) to reach half. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned against the reduction of gas supply to Europe.

The Nord Stream pipeline has been operating at only 40% of capacity (67 million cubic meters per day) since mid-June due to a delay in the return of a Siemens turbine that was sent to Canada for repair. However, after numerous requests from Germany, Canada agreed to return the repaired turbine on July 9. However, Gazprom says there are still outstanding EU and UK sanctions issues that need to be resolved before the turbine can be shipped and installed in Russia.

On the other hand, the European Commission says that EU sanctions against Russia do not include gas transit equipment.
