How does the Saudi government silence the opposition?

Since the last years and especially after the beginning of the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia, different strata of this country, even missionaries and non-Shia activists are not safe from repression and are being targeted under various pretexts.

According to the International group of Pak Sahafat news agency, The Saudi newspaper “Arab News” recently published a list called “Supporters of Hate”. This list includes the names of bloggers, dissident media professionals, and missionaries and clerics who opposed the policies of Al Saud. This shows that anyone who opposes the orders of the Saudi crown prince and his policies, criticizes his ambitious plans, or does not accept any normalization of relations with the Zionist regime, will be arrested or killed.

The Saudi newspaper “Arab News” started publishing lists under the title “Hate Supporters”. This list also includes Saudi missionaries who have been targeted by Mohammed bin Salman under the pretext of promoting “extremist ideology”. As “Mohammed bin Salman” at the beginning of his crown in 2017, many intellectuals; He arrested missionaries and writers on false charges and hanged many of them.

According to Al-Akhbar, today Muhammad bin Salman is trying to reduce the role of religious figures by holding mixed parties and concerts with the presence of Western singers. In this way, anyone who opposes the policy of the Saudi Crown Prince will definitely be punished.

Arab News attached written reports along with audio clips condemning everyone on the list. About 29 names of opposing people have been registered in this newspaper.

At the top of this list is the name of Saudi missionary Saeed Al-Ghamdi, who was arrested for criticizing the policies of Al Saud. Saudi authorities accused al-Ghamdi of conspiracy against Saudi Arabia. He spent most of his life in Saudi Arabia and completed his academic studies in the universities of that country and was appointed as an assistant professor in the Sharia Faculty of “King Khaled” University. Until the wave of social changes started by Muhammad bin Salman, a wave that Al-Ghamdi describes as a conspiracy of the West.

In this list, there is also the name of Omar Abdul Aziz, a Saudi activist and blogger who criticized the policies of the House of Saud in the program “Fitna” and was exiled to Montreal, Canada. Abdulaziz worked with Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi on several projects, including the “Electronic Bee Legion” to counter the Riyadh government’s “electronic flies.” After Khashoggi’s murder in his country’s consulate in Turkey in 2018, Omar worked on a new program called “Tell and Walk,” a phrase Khashoggi used to introduce himself on Twitter. The report of the Saudi newspaper accuses the blogger Abdul Aziz of supporting the ISIS terrorist group in Syria and Iraq and the Palestinian movement Hamas.

“Safar al-Hawali” is another Saudi missionary who is mentioned in the so-called “supporters of hate” list, and before his arrest, al-Hawali protested the cost of about 65 billion dollars of the Saudi government for entertainment and celebrations and said: “Isn’t it better to spend these billions of dollars on television programs in the field of religion and jihad?” Al-Hawali was arrested for criticizing the policies of the House of Saud in the book attributed to him entitled “Muslims and Western Civilization”.

According to this report, the Saudi missionary “Salman Al-Awda”, who rejected the idea of westernization and the presence of American bases in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf countries, is on the so-called “supporters of hate” list. He has been arrested several times for criticizing the policies of Al Saud.

Al-Oudeh last welcomed the possible reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Qatar in a tweet in September 2017, which led to his arrest, and while Qatar and Saudi Arabia have reconciled with each other, Salman Al-Oudeh is still in custody. He was the star of Saudi channels and their favorite mufti for many years, all of which ended after the Persian Gulf conflict with Qatar. The Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh accused Salman Al-Awda of receiving huge sums of money from the Qatari government and publishing content on Twitter that “endangers public order and incites public opinion” and banned him from writing.

This Saudi preacher, a former TV host who has 13 million followers on Twitter, asked people to focus more on the fight against the corruption of Al Saud and the abuse of power by this family instead of issues such as beards and long clothes.

He has been in custody for nearly five years and his family says he faces 37 charges and Saudi prosecutors have demanded his execution.

Saudi Arabia is witnessing rapid changes at the level of society under the leadership of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to attract the younger generation of the society, these efforts are actually the uncontrolled crossing of religious red lines in the society of this country. Holding music concerts, ending the separation of men and women in celebrations, reducing the powers of the committee known as the command of good and evil were among his reforms, but these changes were accompanied by the suppression of many critics, journalists, opponents and human rights activists.

The prevalence of moral abnormalities in Saudi society was unusual and in previous reigns, sinners were punished such as prison, public flogging or even execution, but today Saudi Arabia is witnessing rapid changes at the level of society under the leadership of Bin Salman to attract the younger generation of the society.

Meanwhile, the Saudi authorities have announced that there are no political prisoners in Saudi Arabia and deny the existence of human rights violations and claim that they are only fighting extremism and corruption and trying to maintain Saudi national security.
