Pakistan invites Iranian investors to participate in the development of special economic zones

Pak Sahafat – Pakistan’s investment minister invited Iranian companies to invest in the development of special economic zones in that country and said that Pakistan is determined to create a favorable environment for foreign partners.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, Chaudhry Salek Hossein hosted the economic-commercial delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Ali Fikri, Deputy Minister of Economy and Head of Investment and Economic and Technical Assistance Organization in Islamabad.

“Nabi Shirazi”, the deputy of the Iranian Embassy in Pakistan and some officials of the Pakistan Investment Committee were also present in this meeting.

This meeting was held with the aim of reviewing the latest developments related to the bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in the economic and commercial fields, as well as reviewing the agenda of the third joint investment committee, which is scheduled to be held tomorrow in Islamabad.

The previous two meetings of the Iran-Pakistan Joint Investment Committee were held virtually in the summer of 2021 and the winter of 2022, and the third meeting will be held tomorrow with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Finance of Iran.

In today’s meeting, issues related to Iran-Pakistan joint investment cooperation were discussed in detail. The parties also discussed the agenda items proposed by the Iranian side in the presence of all the stakeholders of the Pakistani side.

The two sides agreed to take the necessary steps to sign the Iran-Pakistan Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), and at the same time, negotiations on its draft are also ongoing.

Investment Minister of Pakistan said that under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan is developing 9 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and rapid development of four out of these 9 zones is underway to create a favorable business environment for investors as well as Foreign companies should be provided.

Stating that investment opportunities and incentives in these economic areas are equally available to all investors from all over the world without any discrimination, he said: Pakistan encourages Iranian investors to take advantage of the opportunities offered by special economic zones by participating as developers or regional companies.

Fekri, Deputy Minister of Economy and head of the Iranian delegation, also discussed with the Pakistani side about joint investments in the fields of urea fertilizer production, technology sector, exploitation of science and technology parks, and export and import cooperation in the sea sector.

According to this report, the Deputy Minister of Economy and members of the Iranian delegation are going to meet the officials of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan tomorrow while participating in the third meeting of the Joint Investment Committee.
