Since the beginning of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022, Pakistan has been facing pressure from the West to support one side of this war, at the same time; Islamabad has emphasized its neutral positions and at the same time supported the immediate and peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis.

The government of Islamabad also refused to condemn Moscow, but at the same time sent humanitarian aid to Ukraine and demanded a political solution to the conflict. Pakistan has three times refused to vote on anti-Russian resolutions in the UN General Assembly.

In April of this year, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan strongly rejected the claims of providing any ammunition to Ukraine in the current conflict with Russia and emphasized that Islamabad has maintained the policy of neutrality.

Officials in Pakistan informed about the Ukrainian Foreign Minister’s visit that Islamabad will reiterate its desire for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

At the end of February last year, during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister emphasized the need to use diplomacy to immediately stop the war in Ukraine.

The government of Pakistan is not willing to take a position against Russia, but it has expressed its serious concern many times over the prolongation of the war in Ukraine and its heavy consequences on the region and the world.
