Yemen’s agreement with the United Nations over the damaged Safar oil tanker

Pak Sahafat – The head of the monitoring committee for the implementation of the agreement on the resolution of the Safar oil tanker crisis in Yemen said on Friday night that they reached an agreement with the United Nations on an alternative ship to unload the crude oil contained in this oil tanker.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report from Al-Masira, Zeid Alwashali said that an agreement has been reached with the United Nations to designate a ship to replace the Safar oil tanker to unload crude oil.

He added: We are seriously pursuing the issue of the Safar oil tanker and we are trying to separate it from the political and military situation. Because it is a humanitarian issue.

Alwashali expressed hope that there will be seriousness regarding the issue of the Safar oil tanker, but in case of an accident, the responsibility of the aggressor countries and the United Nations.

In the end, he said that this committee has done all its efforts to facilitate the mission of the United Nations and this organization must be serious.

The Safar oil tanker has been anchored near Ras Isa port in Hodeidah for about five years and contains more than one million barrels of Marib light oil.

Officials of the National Salvation Government based in Sana’a previously warned against a major environmental disaster, the consequences of which will not be known, and added that due to the dilapidated condition of the Safar oil tanker, this issue is considered a greater threat to Yemen and the region.

They warned about the unexpected incident of oil leakage into the engine room of this ship due to wear of one of the pipes and walls of the tanks on May 27, 2020 and announced that this incident may cause the ship to sink or explode.
