A black representative seeks to replace Pelosi in Congress

Pak Sahafat – Hakeem Jeffries, the black Democratic representative of the US House of Representatives, announced his readiness to succeed Nancy Pelosi as the leader of the Democrats in the US Congress.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, quoted by NBC, the 52-year-old Jeffries, if elected, will become the first black leader of the US Congress. Two other Democratic representatives, Kathryn Clark, 59, and Pete Aguilar, 43, are also seeking to join Jeffries in the three-member congressional Democratic leadership team.

Jeffries, a Democrat from New York City and the fourth-highest vote-getter among Democratic candidates in last week’s midterm elections, announced on Friday that he would pursue Pelosi’s successor as the leader of the Democratic representatives of the US Congress.

His announcement in a letter to colleagues came a day after Pelosi announced in a speech that he would step down after two decades as the top Democratic leader of the House of Representatives.

If Jeffries succeeds in achieving his wish, he will set a historical record as the first black leader of the US Congress.

In a statement, Pelosi endorsed all three to succeed his leadership team, saying they are ready and willing to take on this great responsibility.

He added: In the 118th Congress of the United States, the Democrats in the House of Representatives will be led by a three-person delegation that reflects the beautiful fact that our nation is made up of different ethnicities and is a confirmation of the fact that in the Democratic Party and especially in the Democratic faction of the United States Congress our ability comes from our diversity and strength from our unity.
