Saudi human rights activist threatened with death

A Saudi human rights activist in Britain says he has been threatened with assassination by the Al Saud regime.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency International Group, A prominent Saudi activist living in exile has revealed that he has received death threats for criticizing Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

According to Saudi Leaks, “Alia al-Hawiti”, a Saudi activist based in London, has received threatening messages for criticizing Al Saud.

In an interview with the British newspaper “Independent”, Al-Hawiti emphasized that after receiving horrific death threats and hacking of her emails, she installed an alarm in her house.

Aliya al-Hawiti, 36, who became her country’s first international horseman in 2005, said the Saudi crown prince was angry because she criticized Al Saud, protested the detention campaign, and supported the al-Hawitaat tribe.

Al-Hawiti has repeatedly criticized Muhammad bin Salman on social media and in television interviews.

She said: I will speak to the world about the actions of Al-Saud, and if you remain silent, they will continue to threaten you.

Aliyah Al-Hawiti added: Threats started through websites, Twitter, YouTube, social media and anonymous phone calls to the point where they kept threatening: Do not think you are safe in London and these threats were the voice of a man with a Saudi accent.

According to the Saudi activist, she was threatened with death on social media and many Saudi users told her that she would be shot in the head.

Alia believes that the threatening trolls are sending messages from a security center in Riyadh, which is under the control of a circle close to the Saudi Crown Prince.

Al-Hawiti said London police had tried to track down the source of the threats, but had difficulty doing so because the messages had been received from different IP addresses.

A recent study by the British Daily Telegraph revealed an increase in threats against the Saudi opposition in London under the repressive rule of Mohammed bin Salman and his approach of suppressing and destroying peaceful dissidents inside and outside Saudi Arabia.

This English newspaper wrote, Yahya al-Asiri, the former secretary general of the National Opposition Party, found a large knife on the edge of his kitchen window, following which threats were posted on social media sites with the knife and word sign – soon.

Among the Saudi opposition in exile in London, there are fears that the scenario of the heinous murder of Saudi journalist and critic Jamal Khashgeji at his country’s consulate in Turkey in October 2018 will be repeated.

The crackdown on dissidents, human rights activists and independent critics by Al Saud officials continues unabated despite the release of some prominent activists in early 2021.
