Yemen crisis | Continued sale of British weapons to Saudi Arabia

Britain continues to sell weapons to Saudi Arabia amid the Yemen crisis.

According to the Guardian, a British official stressed that his country continues to sell weapons to Saudi Arabia for use in Yemen.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden claimed last week that “we will end all US support for offensive operations in the war in Yemen, including the sale of weapons related to the conflict.”

However, one of the directors of the British Foreign Office stated that his country will go its own way in this regard.

James Cleverley claimed that the sale and export of firearms in the UK was “carried out with great care” so that there would be no human rights violations.

Forty percent of British arms exports were to Saudi Arabia between 2010 and 2019.

International organizations say the war in Yemen has destroyed all of the country’s economic infrastructure.

International institutions estimate that the war in Yemen has left more than 112,000 people dead and that the poor country is at risk of severe famine. Meanwhile, the finger of blame is pointed at Riyadh the most.

Earlier this month, Italy lifted an 18-month suspension of arms sales to the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
