United Nations: More than 9,000 civilians have been killed in the war in Ukraine

Pak Sahafat – The UN Human Rights Monitoring Committee in Ukraine announced that more than 9,000 civilians, including more than 500 children, have been killed since the beginning of the war in this country.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, in a report on the occasion of the 500th day of the start of the war in Ukraine on the United Nations website on Friday, this organization wrote that the actual statistics may be higher than these figures.

Noel Calhoun, the deputy of this delegation in Ukraine, said: “Today we have reached another dark stage in the war, which is taking terrible casualties from Ukrainian civilians.”

The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Committee in Ukraine added in its report that a total of 9,177 civilians were killed and another 15,993 civilians were injured since the beginning of the war on February 24, 2022, until Friday.

This report indicates that 61% of the casualties are men and 39% are women.

On February 21, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in the Donbas region, criticizing the West’s inattention to Moscow’s security concerns.

Three days later, on Thursday March 5th, Putin launched a military operation against Ukraine, which he called “special operations”, thus turning the tense Moscow-Kiev relationship into a military confrontation. Conflicts in Ukraine and reactions to Russia’s action continue.

Russia declared the goal of this operation to liberate Donbass and clear Ukraine from the presence of neo-Nazis in the country’s government organizations.
