The Taliban demanded a representative seat in the United Nations

Pak Sahafat – Kabul once again asked the United Nations to hand over the seat of Afghanistan’s representative in this organization to the Taliban.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report on Saturday from Tolo news agency, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced that the representative of the previous government in the United Nations cannot represent the Taliban and this seat should be given to the Taliban.

He believes that not giving this seat to the Taliban is an injustice to the people of Afghanistan.

Zabihullah Mujahid said: The seat of Afghans in the United Nations is the right of Afghans in this organization. Also, the capital of Afghanistan, which is blocked by America, is also the right of Afghans. The US stopped its military war and apparently stopped occupying Afghanistan, but it continues to untangle and follow wrong policies.

In the annual meeting of the United Nations, the Taliban introduced Sohail Shaheen, the head of the political office of the Taliban in Qatar, as the representative of the caretaker government of the Taliban to the United Nations, but this request was not accepted by the United Nations.

Meanwhile, some experts believe that the reason for not handing over this seat to the Taliban is not meeting the demands of both sides.

Azizimaraj, a former diplomat, said about this issue: Afghanistan’s seat in the United Nations should be given to the Taliban because the Taliban is the ruler in this geography, but the United Nations has given a clear message to the Taliban and announced that this seat will not be given to the Taliban if girls’ schools are not reopened.

Mehdi Manadi, a former diplomat, said: “The members of the United Nations cannot give this seat to the Taliban individually or in the form of universal principles and rules that are defined in the current governance environment.”

Although nearly 19 months have passed since the Taliban became effective again in Afghanistan, the question is why this seat has not been entrusted to the Taliban until now.

Tariq Farhadi, an expert on political issues, said: In the United Nations Resolution No. 259096 of September 2021, the conditions for the official recognition of Afghanistan have been included, where women’s rights, including the right to work and education, are one of the important components that must be realized in Afghanistan in order for the United Nations to recognize the government of Afghanistan.

Previously, the special representative of the United States of America for Afghanistan affairs said in a special conversation with TOLO news that when some issues, especially the issue of universities and schools for girls, are not resolved, the issue of handing over Afghanistan’s seat in the United Nations to the Taliban and frozen Afghan funds will also be discussed.
