Pak Sahafat – The second Baghdad Conference will be held today, Tuesday, with the participation of 12 countries on the shores of the Dead Sea, hosted by Jordan, which has been overshadowed by the presence of “Hossein Amir Abdullahian”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iran, high-ranking officials of the European Union and Saudi officials.
According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, in this conference, which is held at the invitation of King Abdullah II of Jordan and with the coordination of Iraqi Prime Minister Shia Al-Sudani, the heads and officials of Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Turkey, along with the Secretary of Persian Gulf Cooperation Organization and the Arab League, representatives of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Union and French President Emmanuel Macron are present.
Based on the decision of the first conference that was held in Baghdad in August 2021, this conference will be hosted by Jordan and its purpose is to support the sovereignty, security and stability of Iraq and to develop cooperation mechanisms with this issue in such a way that the security, stability and development process of the region increase
According to Jordanian media, the ambassadors of the Arab countries, the European Union, and the Group of 20 will be present at the opening ceremony of this conference.
Food and water security
Ahmad Al-Sahaf, the spokesman of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that this conference is held in order to support the participating countries of Iraq in several cases, including national sovereignty, security and stability of Iraq, and to support the political process and economic path, and the development and reconstruction of this country in a way that meets the demands of the Iraqi people.
He stated: The mentioned conference will discuss the ways of supporting Iraq and the efforts to improve the security and sovereignty of this country and ensure its stability and achieve development and prosperity for its people.
The spokesman of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued: In addition to the development of regional cooperation mechanisms with Iraq, a number of cases related to this country, including the fight against terrorism, food security, water security, energy and other areas that help support this country, are discussed, while regional cooperation methods are discussed, which leads to the security and stability of the region, there will be a dialogue.
Stability and security of the region
The participants in the first meeting of the Baghdad Cooperation and Partnership Conference, which was held on August 28, 2021, in the final statement, rejecting the types and forms of terrorism and extremist thoughts, called for the synergy of regional and international efforts in a way that positively affects the stability and security of the region.
Acknowledging that the region is facing common challenges that need to be dealt with based on common security and mutual benefits, the participants emphasized the need to integrate efforts to deal with the challenges caused by climate change and temperature rise.

The office of the French President, who is mentioned as the originator of this conference, says that the purpose of holding such a meeting is to gather Iraq’s neighbors and partners around a table to move forward through dialogue, but a point to consider that the conditions of the region are still volatile and risky despite the presence of foreign forces and the interference of foreigners in the affairs of this region.
This is in a situation where Iraq has recently reached a solution after a political crisis that lasted for a year, and Syria is still facing the aggressors due to the presence of American and Turkish occupation forces and their support for terrorists. Lebanon is also plunged into political problems due to the presidential vacuum and the intervention of some countries in the region and even France itself, who intend to strengthen their influence in this country, along with other regional crises.
However, Elyse claims that the purpose of this conference is to support the stability, security and prosperity of Iraq and review the situation of the entire region.
Riyad Khahoji, head of the Institute of Military Studies of the Near East and the Persian Gulf, says that this conference has great expectations, but no one expects a miracle.
Perhaps one of the most important issues that has doubled the importance of this conference is the presence of “Enrique Mora” coordinator and “Joseph Burrell” responsible for the foreign policy of the European Union and “Hossein Amirabdolahian” the foreign minister of the Republic of Iran and a number of Arab foreign ministers and officials.
According to some experts, the issue of nuclear negotiations between the West and Iran, which is also of interest to Iran’s Arab neighbors, is today’s meeting between Borrell and Amir Abdollahian on the sidelines of the Baghdad conference in the Dead Sea, with the presence of Iran’s chief negotiator Ali Bagheri and Iran’s negotiation coordinator Enrique Mora. Iran’s 4+1 was investigated and maybe “Aman” is the center of sending a signal in the case of nuclear negotiations.
According to Qahoji, Iran’s superior position in the region should be examined because Iran’s influence exists everywhere in the region from Iraq to Syria and from Lebanon to Yemen.
He added that Iran does not want to lose any achievements, so it negotiates on issues.
Meanwhile, before holding this conference, the Islamic Republic of Iran has cut off diplomatic relations with Tehran since 2016. called for negotiation. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran said yesterday Monday that Tehran is ready to return to normal relations and reopen embassies if the Saudi side is ready.
At the same time, Amir Abdollahian emphasized: It is the Saudi side that must decide how to pursue a constructive approach towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.
A test for the new prime minister of Iraq
This conference is also a test for the new Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, who was elected as the Prime Minister after a political deadlock of more than a year.
The Baghdad Conference 2 will be the first high-level international meeting chaired by this Iraqi official after his predecessor Mustafa Al-Kazemi.
“Hamzah Haddad”, a visiting researcher at the European Council on International Relations, believes that the first Baghdad conference was held with the aim of showing that “Mustafa Al-Kazemi” is able to gather the leaders of the region, especially the Persian Gulf countries, in Baghdad.
According to Haddad, in the second period of this conference, the goal of the new Iraqi Prime Minister is to show that he has the necessary ability to maintain these relations.
He added: However, I think that Iraqis and non-Iraqis want this conference to lead to a more serious agenda and better results.
