The Czech Minister of Defense announced his intention to purchase Israeli-made SPYDER surface-to-air missile defense systems.
According to the Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by Sputnik, Czech Defense Minister Lubomir Metnar announced on Monday that the country would buy Israeli-made surface-to-air defense systems with a $ 630 million contract to replace old Soviet-era defense systems.
The Czech Ministry of Defense predicts that these new air defense systems will be used “within the next 20 years or more”.
Matnar also said: “I appreciate the Israeli government’s willingness to share a defense system that will move our military toward the capabilities of the 21st century. We are getting rid of our dependence on the ‘Soviet’ beating systems since 1970.”
Talks between high-ranking Czech and Israeli officials on the development of Spider-Man defense systems began in November 2020.
