International Criminal Court overlooks US war crimes in Afghanistan

The International Criminal Court’s war crimes prosecutor intends to drop the investigation into US and NATO military crimes in Afghanistan under the pretext of Taliban domination.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency International Group, despite committing various crimes and human rights violations during the two decades of US military occupation of Afghanistan, the International Criminal Court does not intend to investigate these US war crimes.

Karim Khan, one of the prosecutors of this international judiciary, announced on Monday evening (Iranian time) that he is seeking approval for the resumption of the investigation into war crimes in Afghanistan by the Taliban and other militant groups in this country, but this investigation does not include American crimes.

According to Reuters, the request was made under the pretext of the Taliban returning to power after taking control of Afghanistan following the escape of US troops and was sent to the judges of the International Criminal Court for approval.

The tribunal’s prosecutors had previously investigated war crimes by US troops and Afghan government security forces, but Karim Khan now says he intends to prioritize the issue due to a lack of facilities and limited access to information.

According to the report, human rights activists in Afghanistan protested the move by the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, calling it “an insult to the thousands of victims of crimes committed by US, NATO and Kabul governments” against the Afghan people.

Last year, after about 15 years, the court finally launched a full investigation into the war crimes committed by foreign troops in Afghanistan, but the investigation was stopped at the request of the Kabul government and US support.

In a statement, Karim Khan claimed that the fall of the former Afghan government by the Taliban had changed the situation completely, and that the focus of war crimes investigations had shifted from the United States to the Taliban.

In the latest example of inhumane crimes committed by the US military in Afghanistan, on Sunday, September 28, a US drone struck a house in the Khaja Bugra district of Kabul’s 15th police district, killing 10 members of a family.

The head of the Centcom terrorist organization, in a blunt confession to the killing of 10 Afghan civilians in the recent airstrike on Kabul, described the attack as just a “sad mistake.”
