The Yemeni High Council for Humanitarian Affairs said that the Saudi aggressor coalition and its mercenaries are using the civilians and displaced people of Marib as human shields to stop the advance of the Yemeni army and popular committees.
As Ma’rib Governorate witnesses clashes and the displacement of civilians, the Yemeni High Council for Humanitarian Affairs on Thursday evening called for an end to the crimes of the aggressor Saudi-Emirati coalition.
“The aggressor coalition and its mercenaries are using civilians and displaced people as human shield,” the Yemeni organization said in a statement.
Al-Masira news network quoted the council as saying that the aim of the Saudi coalition and the aggressors is to stop the advance of the Yemeni army and popular committees.
The council deplored the insistence of Al-Islah party militants to use human shields as residents of Ma’rib and not to reopen safe passageways for them to cross. Al-Islah is a party affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood that controls Ma’rib.
According to the statement, the invading forces are using Ma’rib civilians as leverage against the international community in order to delay the army’s advance and, consequently, the liberation of the city.
The council blamed the Saudi coalition and mercenaries for endangering the lives of civilians and their poor condition in camps in military areas around Ma’rib.
The Yemeni body said it was closely monitoring the situation in Ma’rib and had made arrangements for the reception and reception of all prisoners who had left Ma’rib.
The council concluded by stressing that the international community must stop the coalition’s crimes so that civilians and displaced people are safe from the consequences of the war and that the coalition should not use people as human shield.
