Persistence of Pakistan’s mistrust in relations with the United States, according to the Washington Post

Pak Sahafat – Despite the claims of the United States about the improvement of relations with Islamabad, a new revelation by the Washington Post shows how Pakistani officials are cautious in their relations with the Americans and are worried about threatening national interests at the cost of compliance with Western policies.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, the Pakistani media today, citing the Washington Post’s revelation in the newspaper’s recent report titled “Leaks of Disputes”, which focuses on the reduction of support for the United States in the Ukraine war, said that the leaked note of Pakistan’s foreign minister’s advisor to the country’s prime minister shows that Islamabad is cautious in its relations with the United States.

In this report, it is stated that “Hina Rabbani” in a confidential diplomatic note emphasized and advised Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to avoid pleasing the Americans because there is no need to find a middle ground in the Cold War between China and the United States.

The Washington Post titled the note of the Pakistani official as “Pakistan’s hard choice” and claimed that Pakistan’s foreign affairs minister stressed that there is no need to satisfy and reassure the West anymore, and Islamabad’s real strategic relations with China should not be lost at the cost of strategic partnership with the Americans.

It is stated in this report that the American intelligence documents did not mention the exact date of the Pakistani official’s note, and no explanation was given about how to access this confidential note.

In another part of this disclosure, Pakistan’s position towards the war in Ukraine is mentioned and that the assistant of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasizes that considering Islamabad’s strong relations with Moscow in the fields of trade and energy, how is it possible for this country to reject the anti-Russian resolution in support the United Nations.

The government of Pakistan is not willing to take a position against Russia, but it has expressed its serious concern many times over the prolongation of the war in Ukraine and its heavy consequences on the region and the world.

Last Friday, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, in response to some reports that accused Islamabad of sending arms and ammunition to Ukraine, and on the other hand, demanded to stop this war, while rejecting any sending of weapons to the parties of the war in Ukraine, emphasized: Pakistan’s position is clear and decisive and we are committed to a neutral approach in the Ukraine war.

In the middle of June last year, Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in a joint press conference with his German counterpart in Islamabad, refused to condemn Russia’s action against Ukraine, and while emphasizing diplomacy and dialogue to stop the conflicts between these two countries, he added: Islamabad’s positions are unchangeable and we do not want to enter into any conflict.

The political and religious leaders of Pakistan consider the US presence in the region to be the cause of the spread of terrorism and extremism in their country, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 80,000 security forces and civilians in various regions of Iran’s eastern neighbor.

According to a poll, the US presence in Afghanistan has not only helped to control terrorism and violence, but their disgraceful departure from Afghanistan since the summer of last year has increased the phenomenon of terrorism in Pakistan by 51%.
