North Korea warns South Korea

North Korea condemned South Korea’s statements about military capability and warned of destructive action.

According to the Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by Reuters, North Korea on Sunday (April 3rd) condemned South Korean Defense Minister’s remarks about its ability to attack North Korea and warned that it would destroy key targets in Seoul if it took any “dangerous military action”, including military action.

According to the North Korean state news agency, Kim Yu Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said in a statement that the South Korean defense minister’s remarks worsened relations between the two Koreas and military tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

North Korea’s warning to its southern neighbor came after a South Korean minister named Su-wook said on Friday that his country’s military had significantly improved missiles with firing range, accuracy and power, and the ability to strike accurate and fast to any target in North Korea.

Sue also said the ministry would actively support the military to ensure it was able to respond decisively to North Korea’s missile threats, calling its northern neighbor an “enemy.”

The North Korean leader’s sister, who is deputy chairwoman of the Korean Workers’ Party Central Committee, also responded by saying that the country would reconsider many issues and that South Korea could face serious threats because of such statements.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have risen sharply in recent weeks following the test of two North Korean ballistic missiles on February 26 and March 4, which included a new ICBM system.
