Niger; The new field of coercion between America and Russia

Pak Sahafat – Referring to the close relations between Niger’s army and Western countries, the French news agency wrote that Russia has provided this West African country with the opportunity to get out of the isolation imposed by regional and international organizations, and Washington is also trying to prevent Moscow from launching a coup in this country.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, in today’s analysis of the situation in the African country of Niger, it is stated that the United States sought to prevent Russia from achieving victory in this coup-stricken country, and despite the initial failure, it still hopes that through long-standing military relations, it will continue to support this country.

Niger was the main focus of American and French operations against West African Takfiris, especially after the military took control of Mali, which led to the expulsion of Western forces and the welcoming of the Wagner group.

While denying Russia’s involvement in the financial coup, American policymakers claims that after this event, Moscow’s influence operation began by posting French-language content on social media and holding rallies in support of the coup plotters.

Cameron Hudson, an Africa expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said: The coup showed that the West’s preconceptions about Niger, which hosts about 2,500 French and American soldiers, were incorrect.

He said: Washington believed that Niger was a very reliable Western partner.

According to Hudson, however, Niger is different from Mali and the Central African Republic, which turned to the Russians after feeling threatened and became Wagner bases, and its military appears to be different from those two countries.

This expert said: What Russia provides for Niger is the opportunity to break the isolation imposed by regional organizations, the United Nations and the European Union.

According to the AFP news agency, a month before the coup in Niger, Yevgeny Prigozhin (Commander Wagner) launched an armed rebellion in Russia and to the surprise of many foreign observers, he survived and not long ago and before the coup, he promised to increase the troops under his command in Africa.

Heather Ashby, director of the Russia and Europe Center at the US Institute of Peace, said Prigozhin “has built a complex network of companies and mercenaries and remains valuable to the Kremlin despite the recent revolt against Putin.”

He added: The continuation of this path is beneficial for Russia. Therefore, I do not predict that Wagner will leave the stage.
