Nicaragua: Russia is still a victim of Western aggression led by the United States

Pak Sahafat – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua emphasized that Russia is still a victim of the aggressions of Western powers under the American government.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, quoted by Efe news agency, Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada said in a speech on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany: 78 years have passed since the heroic battle of the Great Patriotic War, and the Russian Federation is still a victim of the aggression of the Western powers under the United States.

The term Great Patriotic War in Russia and other member republics of the former Soviet Union (except the Baltic countries and Ukraine) refers to the battle of June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945 along the borders of Eastern Europe in World War II between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. The commemoration of the end of the Great Patriotic War is May 9.

According to the head of the Nicaraguan diplomacy, the West, under the guidance of the United States, continues to carry out criminal attacks, blockades, illegal sanctions and interference in its internal affairs.

Moncada emphasized: Russia stands firm, resists and defends its sovereignty, dignity, peace, freedom and security.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua noted that “Russia ended the Second World War with heroism and honor on May 9, 1945” and for this reason, he expressed his admiration and respect for the defenders of the homeland who risked and gave their lives in this way; Defenders defended their country, freed themselves from Nazism and thus allowed them to take the path of world peace.

The government of Nicaragua commemorated the 78th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in Managua (the capital), which was held in the presence of the heads of government and the Russian embassy.

Russia, Nicaragua’s old ally, which provided Soviet weapons to the Nicaraguan armed forces during the first period of Sandinista rule (1979-1979), first established diplomatic relations with Managua in 1944.

In addition, at the end of 2020, Nicaragua established a consulate in Crimea, a territory annexed from Ukraine to Russia, which drew criticism from Ukraine.

Since the return of Daniel Ortega to the presidency in 2007, Nicaragua and Russia have strengthened their relations in many areas.

In one of his comments about the war in Ukraine, the President of Nicaragua previously stated: Russia is fighting for its security, against the Nazis who ruled and killed in Ukraine, where they staged a coup in 2014, and it was brutal.

Ortega accused the Ukrainian government of carrying out “terrorist acts” against its people since 2014, as dissidents in Venezuela and Nicaragua did in the recent past.
