Erdogan’s serious rival in the elections, seeking to strengthen Ankara’s relations with the West

Pak Sahafat – Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the opposition candidate and a serious competitor of the current Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the upcoming presidential election, said that if he wins the election, he will make it his priority to strengthen Ankara’s relations with the West.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report and quoted by Turkey’s Khabar.7 website, in an interview with the BBC channel, this Turkish election candidate promised Western countries that he would take steps to strengthen Ankara’s relations with the West.

He said: “If elected by the Turkish people, instead of dealing with issues such as the Grain Corridor Agreement and by abandoning the meeting with the Kremlin officials, he will be closer to the West.”

Kılıçdaroğlu had previously announced that if he was elected as the president of Turkey, he would keep the purchased Russian S.400 missiles in storage to satisfy the opinion of the West and the United States and stop the project of building a nuclear power plant with the participation of Russia.

He also announced a few days ago that if elected by the Turkish people, in addition to withdrawing his country’s military forces from Syria, he will return Syrian refugees to this country within two years.

In the 13th presidential election of Turkey, which will be held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections of this country, the four final candidates, including Recep Tayyip Erdogan from the President’s coalition, Kemal Kilicdaroglu from the Mellat coalition, Muharram Ince from the State Party and Sinan Oghan from the coalition Ata are competing.

The simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections of Turkey will be held in this country on May 14, 2023, and if the presidential elections are extended to the second round, the second round of this political competition will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023.

To participate in the 28th parliamentary election in Turkey, which is being held at the same time as the presidential election, the candidates of 24 parties and 151 independent candidates compete for 600 parliamentary seats in 87 constituencies.

The upcoming sensitive elections are the 13th presidential election in the history of Turkey and the second presidential election in this country after the change of political system from parliamentary to presidential and the 28th parliamentary election in this country.

The presidential term of Turkey is five years, and the people’s elected members in the Turkish parliament, which has 600 members, sit in their seats for five years.
