Congressman sharply criticizes Trump’s move to pardon Blackwater elements

The Democratic representative in the state of Minnesota called Donald Trump’s pardon of four members of the Blackwater company, who were convicted of killing 14 civilians in Iraq, a “shame” for her country.

Minnesota Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar tweeted Sunday evening criticizing President Donald Trump for pardoning four Blackwater members.

Ilhan Omar, who had previously criticized some of Trump’s policies, wrote in a Twitter message referring to the crimes committed by Blackwater elements in Iraq: “In 2007, four Blackwater contractors opened fire on a crowd at a busy intersection in Baghdad, killing 14 Iraqi civilians.”

The American representative further wrote: “Donald Trump unconditionally pardoned them this week. “This is a scandal for our country and the law.”

Ilhan Omar also attached an article to his message from USA Today that read: “Trump’s amnesty for Blackwater elements blurs the line between killing and war violence.”

Trump pardoned militants involved in the 2007 killing of Iraqis, who were found guilty of shooting at civilians in Baghdad’s al-Nusra Square on September 16, 2007, killing 17 Iraqis and wounding 27 others.

Yesterday, a member of the Al-Fatah coalition in the Iraqi parliament called on the government to complain to the United Nations about the amnesty of Blackwater soldiers and not to remain silent, as in the case of the assassination of resistance commanders.

Mukhtar al-Musawi, a member of the Fatah coalition in the Iraqi parliament, was another member of parliament who called on the government and the State Department to file a complaint against Trump’s move to the United Nations.

The president also pardoned 26 other people Wednesday night, local time (Thursday morning Tehran time), including his former adviser Roger Stone, former Trump campaign chief Paul Manfort and Charles Kushner father of trump’s son in law, Jared Kushner.
