British railway workers strike again

Pak Sahafat – Thousands of railway workers across the UK will go on strike this Tuesday as part of the latest wave of protests in the UK.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report from the TRT network website, strikes are scheduled to be held today, Tuesday, by the largest union of English railways, railways, shipping and transport, known as RMT. These strikes will cause demonstrations at main stations and cancellation or disruption of trips. Officials advised people to travel only if necessary.

The latest round of rail strikes in this Western European country comes as Britain experiences a wave of domestic industrial action not seen since the 1980s. Protests caused by the increase in energy and food prices. The strikers mainly include nurses, postal workers and border force officials.

According to TRT, this week’s British rail strikes will be held in two 48-hour periods from Tuesday to Wednesday and from Friday to Saturday.

Members of the union on Monday rejected a payment offer from Network Rail, the owner of the UK’s railway infrastructure.

The British rail network had offered its workers to increase their wages by five percent for this year and another four percent at the beginning of 2023.

The RMT union confirmed on Monday that its members had voted to reject the latest offer and would continue their strike.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: This is a huge rejection of a non-standard proposal from Network Rail.

The RMT has announced further strikes from 6pm on Christmas Eve, December 24th until 6am on December 27th. Other actions are planned for January 3-4 and 6-7.

The government on Monday called on unions to call off planned strikes that would hit health care and postal delivery over the Christmas period.
