The US government has announced that the Ministry of Defense has been allocated funding to complete the border wall in the south of the country.
US President Joe Biden has canceled a government military budget to complete the southern border wall.
According to Hill News, a White House official announced Friday local time: “In line with the president’s announcement that he will end the budget allocation for the border wall, no other amount will be diverted from the construction of the wall.”
He continued: “Today, the Ministry of Defense is canceling all wall construction projects using the targeted budgets and is taking steps to return the army’s development budgets to the appropriate legal objectives.”
According to the US official, the returned funds will be used to build schools for children of military personnel, military projects in the United States, funding for the National Guard and a reserve account for military equipment.
Upon entering the White House, Biden canceled the state of emergency declared by former US President Donald Trump to finance the construction of the border wall and halted the project to be reviewed.
Republican lawmakers have described Biden’s decision as illegal, citing a congressional approval of the Mexican border wall, and the White House is preparing a report on the legality of the temporary suspension of the project.
However, US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Majorcas recently told staff that Biden would probably receive the green light to complete the “gaps” in the border wall.
Majorcas had said: “The president has made it very clear that the state of emergency that allowed the Department of Defense to allocate funds for the construction of the wall is over.”
The US Secretary of Homeland Security adds: “But this decision leaves room for the government to decide on certain areas of the wall that need to be rebuilt or projects that need to be completed.”
