Baghdad’s proposal to create a strong economic bloc with the participation of Iran, Iraq and Turkey

A spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce announced the idea of ​​an economic bloc with the participation of Iran and Turkey to compete with the world’s trade blocs.

According to Pak Sahafat news agency, Mahmoud Hanoun, spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce, said that at the joint Iraqi-Turkish trade meeting in Istanbul, attended by the two countries’ public and private sectors, the Iraqi delegation’s main message was to form an Iran-Iraq-Turkey trade bloc.

According to Hanoun, during the meeting, the Iraqi delegation discussed investment opportunities in the agricultural and health sectors, the opening of Iraqi banks in Turkey, and the importance of the presence of Turkish companies in Iraq and solving the water problem.

The issue of water scarcity and its severe impact on agriculture and the need to transfer new irrigation technologies were other topics discussed at the meeting.

The Iraqi delegation also called for the provision of facilities for Iraqi investors in Turkey and the facilitation of their movement by issuing multi-year visas.

The Iraqi official added that Turkey has promised to follow up on 10 issues, including visa facilitation.

A spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce said that trade between Iraq and Turkey is $ 21 billion a year, and that Turkey is Iraq’s second largest trading partner after China.

He also announced the idea of ​​opening two new border crossings with Turkey to facilitate trade and boost trade.

Hanun said: The Iraqi delegation stressed the need to provide facilities to Iraqi investors in Turkey.
