Appointment of Germany’s first female foreign minister

Germany is witnessing the appointment of the first female foreign minister in its history.

According to Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by NDTV: Annalna Burbock, co-chair of the German Green Party, is set to be named the first female foreign minister in German history, according to her party.

The news follows the announcement of the formation of a new German coalition government.

Analna Burbock has spoken of taking bolder stances against China and Russia and focusing on human rights and the rule of law in German diplomacy.

According to the report, Berbock, 40, a mother of two, is expected to take office in early December as soon as the new German government – consisting of the Social Democrats, the Liberal FDP and the Greens – takes office.

Michael Kellner, director of the German Green Party, said in a statement that Robert Hobek, another co-leader of the party, was to head a “super-ministry” that would include the ministries of economy, energy and climate protection.

He will also be appointed Deputy Prime Minister.

Berbock, who won a gymnastics medal earlier in the September election, lost his candidacy for the post of Chancellor and succeeds Angela Merkel. However, he led his party to a record-breaking 15 percent in the election.
