America: We will not tolerate the ban on buying chips from China

Pak Sahafat – Following China’s ban on the purchase of chips from the American company Micron, the US Commerce Minister announced that Washington will not tolerate this action.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency from Reuters, Gina Raimondo said in a press conference after the meeting of trade ministers in the “Indo-Pacific Economic Framework” talks led by the United States that Washington is firmly opposed to China’s actions against Micron.

In this news conference, the US Commerce Minister claimed that these actions are aimed at only one American company without any basis and are considered as economic coercion. He added that Washington will not tolerate it, and the US believes that this action will not be successful.

China’s cyberspace regulator announced on May 21 that Micron, America’s largest memory chip maker, has failed a security audit of its network, and as a result, critical infrastructure operators are barred from buying from the company, which will lead to a decrease in the company’s revenue.

The decision came after the G7 members agreed to new initiatives to counter what they called China’s “economic coercion”.

“As we announced at the G7 (Hiroshima meeting) and as we have always said, we are closely engaged with partners who are addressing this particular challenge and the challenges associated with China’s non-market practices,” Raimondo noted.

He also raised the issue of Micron in his meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Wentao on Thursday.

The US Secretary of Commerce stated that the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Agreement in the field of supply chains and other areas of negotiations is compatible with the US investments in the $52 billion chip law in order to strengthen semiconductor production in the country.

Raimondo continued that the investments in the chip law are aimed at strengthening and increasing domestic production of semiconductors.
