African countries oppose US reforms in the World Health Organization

Pak Sahafat – African countries have rejected a US proposal to amend international health laws, saying the reforms should be considered in a “comprehensive package”.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency report from Reuters on Wednesday morning, International health law sets out the binding legal obligations of WTO members on the spread of disease.

The United States has proposed 13 amendments to international health regulations that seek to establish expert teams in contaminated areas and establish a new committee to oversee law enforcement.

African countries’s members of the World Health Organization (WHO) have expressed concern about the change, saying all reforms should be considered as part of a “comprehensive package” at a later stage.

Diplomats say opposition from African countries may be a strategy for getting vaccine concessions and sharing drugs from richer countries.

The action of rich and western countries in hoarding corona vaccines has been criticized by many countries.
