200 ISIS commanders killed in Iraq in 2020

A spokesman for the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Agency said an unprecedented operation against the ISIS terrorist group had killed more than 200 of its commanders in 2020.

Sabah al-Nu’man, a spokesman for the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Unit, said that the unit began pursuing terrorist elements early last year by drawing up an intelligence and strategic plan, citing an analysis of the security situation in the areas.

In an interview with the Iraqi news agency Waa, al-Nu’man said that after the completion of this strategic plan, an unprecedented operation began, culminating in more than 300 operations late last year, during which more than 200 terrorists were killed at the command level and (300 people) were also arrested in 2020.

He added that since the beginning of this year, these operations have continued to pursue terrorist elements.

According to him, with the implementation of these operations, along with other operations of the security forces, many terrorist threats and terrorist operations that ISIL intended to carry out were identified through the confessions of the group’s elements.

Al-Nu’man stated that ISIL was planning to carry out terrorist operations, but the speed with which the anti-terrorism apparatus operated and the speed with which it received information led us to thwart a large number of these terrorist operations.

The spokesman for the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Agency also stressed that the operation to pursue ISIL elements and avenge the blood of the martyrs will continue.
