The Middle East, the new arena of the Cold War between China and America

Pak Sahafat – The Eurasia Review website, in an article referring to China’s growing presence in the Middle East, examines the differences between its policies and the United States and writes: The Cold War is not only not over, but we are witnessing a new form of it in this region between Beijing and Washington.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, citing the American news site Eurasia Review, the Cold War after the collapse of the Soviet Union has not only not ended, but has taken a new form with the arrival of new players.

Eurasia Review in an article titled “Middle East; The new arena of the US-China Cold War” has stated: With the increasing presence of China, we are witnessing a multipolar world, and in the Middle East we are also witnessing the Cold War of this emerging power with the United States.

According to the author of this article, China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has a good place in the Middle East region known as MENA (MENA, which includes the countries of the Middle East and North Africa that are mainly oil producers) and plays a role in the Cold War between China and the United States.

In addition, in the past few years, China has become the largest trading partner of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council countries and is strengthening relations with other countries in the Middle East.

Referring to the numerous American military bases in the Middle East, this website explained that after the Second World War, Washington sought to expand military relations with these countries. But on the other hand, China is seeking to promote influence from another angle. In other words, China plays a role by influencing soft power and adopting a policy of non-commitment and non-intervention through investment and trade.

The author then introduces the Zionist regime as the representative of the United States in the region and reminds as an example: both the United States and Israel were against Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and supported his opponents, but at the same time they were hostile to Iran and supported anti-Iranian sanctions.

Meanwhile, China is trying to establish peace between the antagonists by adopting a diverse policy. The author then considers Beijing’s initiative to mediate between Tehran and Riyadh as a brilliant document for this claim.

According to this website, China’s interests in the region are mainly based on establishing itself as an economic power that is suitable for investment in the Belt and Road project. For example, China started cooperation with Arab countries in 2004, established the China-Persian Gulf Cooperation Council in 2010 for strategic dialogue, and in 2021, the China-Arab Summit was held. Apart from this, China has also helped most countries in the region in the fields of military and information technology. According to observers, China’s investment in the Middle East has changed the landscape of this region.
