Saudi regional movements; a return to rationality or diplomatic deception?

Pak Sahafat – Saudi leaders announced a halt to military operations in Yemen on Wednesday during a meeting on the Yemeni war in central Riyadh; the news is a glimmer of hope for the end of an aggression, but it does not diminish doubts about the nature of the Saudis’ recent moves.

A series of recent Saudi moves, including a meeting on Yemen in Riyadh and the announcement of a halt to military operations, have been on the agenda of Saudi leaders since a devastating Yemeni offensive on the Aramco facility caused heavy damage.

Of course, in addition to Aramco, other military and infrastructure areas were also targeted by Yemeni drones and missiles, which are currently difficult to estimate.

On the one hand, experts on regional issues have given the green light to the recent movements in Riyadh and considered it promising; maybe a return to rationality in Saudi leaders, especially regarding regional issues!

But on the other hand the doubts are undeniable; for example, in a meeting on Yemen, the main parties are absent and the inviter and the summoner, or rather the arbitrator himself, is a party to the dispute.

The resigned head of state, Abdurrahman Mansour Hadi, and his deputy, the deputy prime minister, Moin Abdul Malik, who was Saudi Arabia’s main excuse for invading Yemen, are not present. The other side, Yemeni Ansarullah, also refused to attend the meeting, as they believe that Saudi Arabia, as the aggressor and the main party to the crisis, does not have the authority to mediate and advance the peace initiative.

Another point is that holding this meeting while the aggression against Yemen continues, the oppressive siege of the Yemeni people is not broken and there is no other guarantee for the continuation of the attacks on the poor people of Yemen, what effect will it have on controlling the crisis?

In addition, with whom are the guarantees of decision in such a meeting? Basically, are the resolutions of this meeting legally significant?

However, although the recent moves of Saudi Arabia cannot be taken too seriously, but if the result of reconsideration and reflection in the decision-making body of this country, we can still hope for the future.

Certainly, new international conditions, including the war in Ukraine, the instability of the current order, the escalation of militarism in the world and the region, the disruption of equations in international energy trade, and the unpredictability of current world developments, can each contribute in the revision of Saudi leaders in their regional policies.

At the same time, there are other issues, especially at the regional level, that the Saudis should have considered;

First, the swamp that was designed for them in Yemen brought billions of dollars in arms profits to Western powers and continues to do so, so that whoever comes in gets a share of the region.

The cost of this situation and its continuation will be paid from the pockets of the nations of the region and the death and non-existence of its nations. The Yemeni war has taken thousands of Yemenis to the altar of seven years of aggression and destroyed the country’s infrastructure.

This trend has turned the Muslim habitat into a barrel of gunpowder, and instead of planting the seedlings of friendship; hatred and resentment have prevailed in the region.

This situation comes at a time when foreign powers intervening in the region are investing in covert space projects and are on the verge of building infrastructure for permanent deployment on Mars.

Many countries are investing in health and drug projects to prepare for new pandemics, in other words biological warfare.

At the same time, times have changed, and in the new media environment and the turmoil of social networks, the killing of innocent women and children can no longer be hidden, and a nation cannot be forced to surrender in complete ignorance, and vice versa, this atmosphere is the field of resistance.

The Yemeni people have both chanted their slogans and proved that they will not give up the resistance even in the worst living conditions and alone; As Mohammad al-Bakhiti, a member of the political bureau of the Ansarullah movement, said in response to the cessation of Saudi military operations, “the war will continue until the end of the siege and the withdrawal of the occupying forces.”

So if the Saudis have come to the conclusion that they do not expect victory in the invasion of Yemen; this is the beginning of entering a rationality that can be hopeful.

The Saudi leaders must have come to the conclusion that the Yemenis have nothing to lose but trust in God and an iron will and determination to defend their ideals and homeland.

In addition, Americans and Westerners have proven in practice that they understand nothing but their own interests and, if necessary, to trample on their partners and allies to escape serious crises.

The wheels of the leaders of Saudi Arabia and some countries in the region to the east will not pull them out of the swamp they have created, because everyone is looking for his share and interests in this battle.

Certainly, the only hole that Saudi Arabia and even other governments in the region can hope to get out of the crisis is to solve the problems and sufferings of the region with the participation of all its countries.

The road to peace and stability that puts an end to the arms race and the killing of Muslim nations passes only through the path of collective participation to ensure the security of the region.

With these descriptions, it is first necessary to determine that the recent moves of the Saudis are diplomatic tactics and tricks to gain time to get out of the confusion of attacking Aramco? Or should we wait for new developments in the region?

Should we wait to determine whether the intention and nature of Saudi actions are tactical or narrate a new approach based on political rationality and maturity?
