Atwan: The arrival of Iranian fuel in Lebanon is a victory for the resistance and the failure of US sanctions

One Arab world analyst cited the arrival of Iranian fuel tankers to the Lebanese people as a victory for the Axis of Resistance and the breaking of US sanctions without firing a single shot.

According to the Pak Sahafat news agency, “Abdolbari Atwan”, an analyst in the Arab world, wrote in an article in the electronic newspaper Rai Al-Youm, referring to the arrival of Iranian fuel cargo in Lebanon: How did US sanctions fail without a single bullet being fired? What will be the options for Washington and its allies after this humiliating defeat?

He wrote: Like millions of others, we saw Iranian fuel oil tankers enter the Lebanese “Bekaa” area from the Syrian border to unload their cargo, which will be distributed free of charge among hospitals, nursing homes and orphanages.  It will also sell to private hospitals and bakeries at prices below cost.

Atwan added: Although Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah in Lebanon, called on the people to refrain from celebrating and gathering in order not to embarrass and provoke the other side; But people on both sides of the road were overjoyed, and some of them threw flowers at the caravan carrying fuel to celebrate this great spiritual and political victory.

The analyst stated: This joy is justified and only those who understand that they spent more than six months in complete darkness due to the failure of public and private power generators due to the absence of essentials. Either those who were hungry and did not have bread for their children due to the failure of the bakeries, or did not find medicine for their children, or waited for long hours in front of gas stations to pour a few liters of gasoline into their car.

He wrote: Many US allies and supporters were skeptical of the arrival of fuel tankers in the Syrian port of Banias, targeting it or even targeting it by the US and its ally Israel in the sea or in the host Syrian port or target the tankers delivering fuel to Lebanese cities. But their hopes were dashed, and all their joy was wasted.

Atwan continued: With the arrival of Iranian oil to Lebanon, three sanctions were simultaneously broken: the Iranian oil embargo, the Syrian port embargo, and the Lebanese nation embargo. Caesar’s sinister American law is taking its last breaths.

He wrote: Hezbollah emerged victorious from the US sanctions against Lebanon aimed at weakening, disarming and inciting the Lebanese or most of them against it and waging a civil war to erode it. Also Iran and Syria, which did not hesitate to open its ports to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese brother nation, despite the fact that they were the first because of the crisis they are in due to sanctions.

This analyst reported: This is an emphasis on two issues; First, the existence of a resistance leadership that can challenge the decision. This was shown in Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, who has a high level of combat power and morale, and accepts all its consequences, as well as the ability to manage the logistical measures related to it, including providing transportation, storage and distribution of this fuel.

Second, the US government’s misconceptions about the other side’s situation and capabilities, the extent of the Lebanese nation’s suffering, angry reactions, and the late and erroneous decisions made to alleviate this suffering. It also refuted all the false claims that the US government has always made those sanctions do not harm nations, but target the ruling regimes, which have been exposed to be false.

Atwan added: The oppressive US embargo, which is backed by some domestic political groups with the utmost regret, failed with the passage of the first tanker carrying Mazurt to the Lebanese border, and the US shock was lost and suffered a major political and humanitarian defeat.

He wrote: Failure to deal with fuel tankers and prevent them from reaching the hungry and sanctioned Lebanese people, whether by the United States and its fleet or Israel and its fighters, who continue to play the role of Lebanese airspace and target one or two targets deep in Syria. It created a new deterrent phase, the clear title of which was the victory of the resistance axis in the tanker war.

The analyst continued: US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has threatened mass retaliation in response to an attack on an Israeli ship in the Oman Sea two months ago with suicide drones.

He wrote: Above all, it did not dare to carry out its new threats to prevent the arrival of Iranian fuel shipments and its tankers in order to reassure its long line of supporters who still rely on the umbrella of US support. The same supporters who hoped for US sanctions against their country, Lebanon. This happiness, like the previous ones, was lost.

Atwan has concluded: The United States has burned its toes in the Middle East, and all its plans have failed, leaving it with only a safe exit to reduce its damage and prevent another “Kabul airport disaster.”
