Qatar stonewalling Syria’s return to the Arab League

Pak Sahafat – While the grounds for Syria’s joining the Arab League are increasing day by day and countries like Saudi Arabia are ready to re-establish relations with Damascus, Doha, while rejecting the normalization of relations with the Syrian government, have announced that for the country’s return to the Arab League an Arab consensus is needed.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, Qatar’s foreign ministry in recent days, while emphasizing its continued opposition to Syria’s return to the Arab League, has announced that Doha’s position in rejecting the restoration of relations with Damascus has not changed.

Majid Al-Ansari, the official spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, claimed that there is still no Arab consensus regarding the return of the Syrian government to the Arab League, and that the Qatari government treats this issue as one of the priorities of Arab issues. Therefore, the consensus of the Arab countries is very important for the return of Syria to the Arab League, and this consensus will be achieved as a result of positive developments that must take place in Syria. But we do not see such a thing in front of us.

According to this Qatari official, “in our opinion, there will be no change in Qatar’s position, because our position is clear and fixed and is not influenced by what is happening in political circles; Unless real changes occur inside Syria and the demands of the people of this country are met, or if an Arab consensus is reached for the return of this country to the Arab League based on positive developments inside Syria.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar also claimed that “currently there is no indicator for optimism about the nearness of the normalization of relations with Syria and the return of this country to the Arab League”.

The 32nd meeting of the heads of Arab countries, hosted by Saudi Arabia, is scheduled to be held on May 29; A meeting where the presidents of Iran, Syria and Turkey will most likely be invited and present, and the position of this Qatari official has been expressed on the eve of this meeting.

Certainly, the Saudi meeting will be very important not only for the region, but also for the world in the current era when the region and the world are pregnant with some bitter events such as the continuation of the war and crisis in Syria, the continuation of the war in Yemen, the complicated situation in Lebanon and Palestine, and the war in Ukraine.

Hossam Zaki, Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League, announced a few days ago that before the 32nd Arab League summit, several preliminary meetings will be held at the level of senior officials and ministers of the Arab and visiting countries, and this action paves the way for the five-day summit.

Will Syria return to the Arab League?

Rai Ilyum newspaper has announced that Saudi Arabia is trying to make the upcoming summit of the Arab League hosted by this country a success, therefore, “Faisal Bin Farhan”, the Saudi Foreign Minister, is going to visit the capitals of different countries with the aim of making the summit of the Arab countries successful and meet their leaders for Invited to attend this meeting.

According to regional media, the mediation of Russia and the UAE led to the removal of the obstacles facing the two Arab countries, Syria and Saudi Arabia, and the Riyadh consulate in Damascus will be reopened after Eid al-Fitr.

Not long ago, news sources announced the upcoming visit of Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan to Damascus and his meeting with the Syrian authorities.

This issue shows that it has been proven for Riyadh that war and conflicts with other countries have no results and the best way to resolve the dispute is through diplomacy and dialogue. Bin Farhan’s words a few days ago are significant in this regard.

The Saudi Foreign Minister recently announced that the Arab countries have come to the conclusion that there is no point in isolating Syria and that it is necessary to negotiate with Syria to solve the country’s problems, especially humanitarian issues, and such negotiations may ultimately lead to Syria’s return to the Arab League.

The situation in the region has not been in a good condition for more than a decade and there is a need for the countries of the region to resolve the problems and misunderstandings between them by converging as much as possible and at the same time preventing the interference of countries such as America.

During the past few months, Erdogan repeatedly insisted on meeting with Assad, but the response of the Syrian president was to emphasize the national interests of this country in the mentioned clauses.

The important point in this is that in the current situation, the diplomatic apparatus of the Islamic Republic of Iran should be activated in this field and bring back Doha from its ransom-demanding vote regarding Syria, so that Damascus can avoid 12 years of problems and crisis by re-entering the Arab League.

Another important point in this is that now Damascus should seek work from Doha, not Doha from Damascus.

In the meantime, the beginning of bilateral talks between Tehran-Cairo, Ankara-Cairo, Ankara-Damascus, Doha-Damascus and Riyadh-Damascus is very important and untangling the misunderstandings and disputes and the process of peace and friendship in the region.
