Iraqi envoys warn of any circumvention of US troop withdrawal agreement

Representatives of various political factions in the Iraqi parliament have warned the Iraqi government against any attempt to circumvent the agreement to expel US troops from the country.

Today (Monday, May 3), a number of representatives of various political factions in the Iraqi parliament warned of the danger of a continued US presence inside their country and stressed the need not to delay the implementation of the achievements of the Baghdad-Washington strategic dialogue.

Badr al-Zayadi, a member of the Iraqi parliament’s Security and Defense Committee, stressed that the commission would take a firm stand if the government manipulated the agreement to expel foreign troops.

In an interview with Al-Ma’loumeh news website, he said: The United States is back today to compete with its citizens after agreeing to expel foreign troops, many of whom are in Iraq. We will be on the lookout for any attempt to circumvent the law and take a different position.

Al-Ziyadi added: Everything is now just media and to catch the pulse of things, but the truth is that if the government’s negligence in this matter is proven, it will be held accountable.

“Ayub al-Rubaye,” the representative of the Fatah coalition in the Iraqi parliament, also said: The results of the strategic dialogue with Washington are not being followed because statements are made that, contrary to the agreement reached in this strategic dialogue, emphasize the continued survival of foreigners in Iraq.

“Fadel al-Fatlawi,” the representative of the “Al-Sadiqun” faction, also said: The government has little time to implement the clauses in the agreement reached with Washington, which emphasizes the need to empty Iraq of any foreign combat forces.

Badr Saegh, a representative of the Sairun Coalition, also said: In the event of any manipulation of the terms of the strategic agreement with Washington, especially where the need to withdraw all foreign combat troops from Iraq is emphasized, parliament will take its position. If any action is violated in violation of this agreement, the parliament will take a position at the appropriate time.

The third round of strategic talks between Washington and Baghdad took place on April 6, focusing on security, the fight against terrorism, the economy, energy, political issues, and cultural cooperation.

“The presence of US troops after the talks will be limited to providing advice and training, and foreign troops will be stationed outside Iraq according to a set timetable,” Ahmed al-Sahaf said.
