Who is the new German Chancellor, Olaf Schultz?

Olaf Schultz has been officially elected Chancellor of Germany by a vote of the German Parliament and took office by taking the oath of office.

Olaf Schultz was sworn in as German Chancellor on Wednesday (December 7th) to end Angela Merkel’s 16-year term.

According to Pak Sahafat news agency, The center-left German Social Democrats, led by Schultz, who won the most votes in the September federal election, will run alongside the Greens and the Liberal Democrats in the new German government.

In recent days, each party to the agreement has ratified a coalition that sets out the German government’s goals, including raising the minimum wage, phasing out coal-fired power plants by 2030, and committing to neutralizing carbon by 2045.

Schultz has named cabinet members, including politicians from the three parties.

Olaf Schultz is a 63-year-old Social Democrat politician; He has held various positions for decades; Member of Parliament, Mayor of the port city of Hamburg, Minister of Labor and Minister of Finance in Merkel-led coalition governments.

Schultz is a well-known figure who German circles say has a deep understanding of the political process and how things are done.

One of the reasons he and his party won the federal election is that the Germans see a continuation of Merkel’s style in Schultz.

But there are some fundamental differences between them.

“Angela Merkel grew up in East Germany,” said Marcel Fratscher, director of the German Institute for Economic Research. “He has a different view, especially on foreign and European policy.”

Fratzcher believes that under a government led by Schultz, Germany will be more aligned with the United States on the world stage and will seek a stronger and more united European Union.

The new German Chancellor, Olaf Schultz, emphasized these goals at a news conference.

He stated: “Our transatlantic relations and cooperation as part of NATO are stable; we are committed to a community of democracies around the world.”

One of the main challenges facing the new German Chancellor is finding a way out of the depths of the epidemic.

Schultz came out of last week’s meeting with Merkel and the prime ministers of 16 federal states with a new list of coronary guidelines; Laws that have suddenly made it more difficult for unvaccinated people to maneuver in German society.

Following these guidelines, while convincing or forcing more than 18 million unvaccinated Germans to receive the vaccine, will be a powerful test for Schultz.
