Wang Yi: Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of China’s Middle East diplomacy

In a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that relations with Saudi Arabia are at the forefront of China’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.

According to Pak Sahafat news agency, according to the South China Morning Post, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement after a telephone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had said that Beijing had always prioritized its relations with Saudi Arabia and wanted to be a long-term and reliable partner.

Wang Yi said: In the face of an unstable international situation, China and Saudi Arabia must maintain close strategic ties, which is an inherent part of the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership. China appreciates Saudi Arabia’s firm support for it in matters of China’s core interests and, as always, strongly supports Saudi Arabia in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and stability, and strongly opposes any interference in Saudi internal affairs.

Beijing is ready to work with Riyadh to deepen ties between the Belt and Road Initiative and Saudi Arabia’s 2030 vision, the Chinese foreign minister said. He added that China would continue to play a constructive role in resuming talks on implementing a nuclear deal with Iran.

Wang Yi said China has always taken an “objective and fair” stance on the Iranian nuclear issue and is committed to maintaining an international nuclear non-proliferation system and maintaining security and stability in the Middle East without any “personal interests or geopolitical considerations”.

China has stepped up its efforts to boost diplomatic relations with the Middle East. Beijing has also expanded its footprint in the region with its Global Infrastructure Program, which has been in place since 2013. The China-Central Asia-West Asia Economic Corridor, a belt and road project passes through many countries in the region, including Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Russia Today reported that the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced that Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Wang Yi had a telephone conversation and had a telephone conversation about bilateral relations and areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The ministry also said that the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and China also discussed regional and international developments and efforts to strengthen stability and security, as well as the two countries’ most important issues of concern. Saudi Arabia is the largest exporter of crude oil to China, which reached 1.96 million barrels per day in August.
