Two reporters report on the plight of refugee camps on the South American border

Following increased pressure from the US government on the plight of refugee camps, two journalists were allowed to visit a center.

Two reporters who were allowed to visit a refugee camp in Texas reported shocking details about their detention.

According to the Rasha Today website, after a number of US senators traveled to the southern borders of the country and published images of how asylum seekers were detained, the US government allowed two Associated Press and CBS reporters to enter one of the camps.

The Associated Press reported after visiting the camp that the less than 300-square-meter building, designed to house 250 people, housed more than 4,100 asylum seekers, most of them families and children.

According to the reporter, there are eight tents in the center, most of which accommodate more than 500 children, all of whom sleep on the floor.

CBS correspondent Nicole Xianga also reported that 615 children were being held in one of the cages alone, which was designed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 32 people.

This reporter stated: “We counted more than 50 children who had a positive corona test and most of whom had no symptoms. These children were waiting for the quarantine bus and a number of children were playing football next to them.

“More than a million asylum seekers are expected to try to enter the United States in September this year,” he was quoted as saying by Raul Ortiz, deputy director of border patrols.

While the legal deadline for keeping asylum seekers in the camps is only 72 hours, 39 unaccompanied children have been in the center for more than 15 days, Xiang said.

Currently, the Biden administration’s immigration policies, which are implemented by the US Department of Homeland Security, have become one of the main points of criticism.

The U.S. Department of Customs and Border Protection faced 100,000 immigrants in February. Meanwhile, more than 16,000 immigrant children are being held by border guards and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

On Friday, a 19-member delegation led by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Texas Sen. John Cornin visited a border town in Dana City and posted pictures of it that the Biden government called for its removal.

Following the senators’ visit to the asylum centers, former US President Donald Trump, whose anti-immigration policies had otherwise turned into a humanitarian crisis in the country, announced that he would probably head to the southern borders soon.
