Trump warns NATO allies: America is not protecting you

The former US president, referring to the opposition of some NATO members to increase the budget, said that in this case, they should not expect support from the America.

According to the Pak Sahafat News Agency; Former United States President Donald Trump told supporters at a rally in Wyoming on Saturday that, unlike his former presidents, he explicitly acknowledged that Washington was not going to help NATO.

The former president of America told the gathering that NATO allies had threatened not to help Russia if it was reluctant to increase military spending if it clashed. This means that if NATO members do not pay for NATO, they should not expect US support.

Trump has previously addressed European countries “You are delinquent, you owe billions of dollars.” Asked by a NATO member if NATO members would not pay the full cost of membership in the alliance, they would not be protected in the event of a Russian attack, he said: “Yes, we will not protect you.”

During his presidency, Donald Trump sent scathing letters to then-German Chancellor Angela Merkel warning of an increase in NATO spending, and said Berlin should increase its funding for NATO membership.

Trump claimed that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was “his biggest supporter.”

Earlier this week, Stoltenberg said that NATO’s new strategic concept, expected to be adopted at the Madrid summit in June, would no longer identify Russia as the bloc’s strategic partner. Stoltenberg added: China has not yet been included in the document as a threat.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that NATO is an alliance aimed at confrontation and aggression. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in early April that further expansion of the coalition to the east was offensive in nature and would not make Europe more secure.
