The White House’s proposal to reduce Venezuela’s oil sanctions

Pak Sahafat – White House sources announced that US officials are drafting a plan that will reduce US sanctions on Venezuela’s oil sector.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, citing Reuters, according to this plan, if Venezuela moves towards free presidential elections, more companies and countries will be allowed to buy the country’s oil.

Washington is trying to encourage talks between Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and the country’s political opposition over elections in Venezuela and other demands.

“Strong Consensus” is Venezuela’s solution to deal with US sanctions

Sanctions relief imposed on Venezuela after Maduro was re-elected in 2018 has been done in the past by the United States but has so far resulted in very few approvals, including one to Chevron (CVX.N) that company is allowed to expand its activities in Venezuela and start exporting its oil to the United States from November.

The White House announced on Wednesday that the administration of US President Joe Biden is ready to reduce sanctions against Venezuela if it takes steps to restore democracy.

The spokesperson of the National Security Council of the White House said: “If Venezuela takes concrete steps to restore democracy that will lead to free and fair elections, we are ready to reduce the sanctions against this country.”

This spokesperson refused to comment on the plan to amend the oil embargo against Venezuela, pointing out that Venezuela has not yet taken the necessary measures to restore democracy in the country.
