Three informed sources told Reuters that the Biden government was refusing to provide $ 130 million in military aid to Egypt due to human rights concerns.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken warned in September that aid would be cut off if Egypt did not pay attention to specific human rights conditions.
Human rights groups have called on the US government to block a total of $ 300 million in foreign military aid to the government of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
According to Reuters, an informed source explained that members of the US Congress have been informed about the government’s decision to refuse aid, which is 10% of the $ 1.3 billion that Egypt is expected to receive from the US this year.
The source said that so far there are no plans to stop the rest of the aid.

Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy welcomed the decision, saying al-Sisi had failed to meet the government’s “limited and fully achievable human rights conditions.”
According to Reuters, Murphy stated in a statement: “It sends an important message abroad that we will act on our commitment to human rights, and that the days of dictators receiving white checks from the United States are over.”
The State Department has not yet responded to a request for comment on the suspension.
It was in mid-October that the US and Egyptian foreign ministers, during a meeting to launch strategic talks between the two countries, while emphasizing ways to increase economic and security cooperation, saw the meeting as an opportunity to advance each of these areas of cooperation.
