The United States has blocked the bank account of the Afghan embassy in Washington

Afghan diplomats say the United States has frozen the bank accounts of the Afghan embassy in Afghanistan, creating problems for embassy staff.

According to the Pak Sahafat news agency news agency, two Afghan diplomats, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the bank accounts of the Afghan embassy and two consulates in the United States had been frozen and that talks were under way with the State Department.

According to VOA, the new passports of the Afghan consulates in the United States have expired, but the renewal of expired passports continues.

The report adds: Embassy employees have been forced to transfer the proceeds to their personal accounts due to the closure of official bank accounts.

An Afghan diplomat said US officials had advised them not to discuss the matter with the media, but that talks with the State Department had not yet yielded results.

About 90 Afghan diplomats remain in the United States after the fall of Ashraf Ghani’s government.

The State Department has not yet commented on the report.
