The Taliban banned women from working in UNAMA, an agency affiliated to the United Nations

Pak Sahafat – UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric criticized the ban on women’s activities in the UNAMA office in Afghanistan and called it unacceptable.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, quoted by AFP, Dujarric said on Tuesday: The office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has received an order from the Afghan authorities prohibiting the activities of Afghan female employees in this organization.

UNAMA announced on Tuesday that the Taliban has banned the activities of the agency’s female employees in Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan.

In December, the Taliban banned the activities of foreign and Afghan female workers in non-governmental organizations, but the United Nations was exempted from this order.

Dujarric said that the UN has not yet received a written order about banning women from working in UNAMA, and a meeting with the Taliban will be held in Kabul on Wednesday.

He added that according to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, “any ban is unacceptable.”

Roza Otunbaifova, head of UNAMA, warned in the Security Council last month that the Taliban may also ban the activities of women in this organization.

UNAMA expressed “serious concern” about the Taliban’s new order in a tweet on Tuesday.
