The shadow of the immigration crisis on Biden’s head; the death of an immigrant teenager in an American detention center

Pak Sahafat – Simultaneously with the tightening of anti-immigration measures in the southern borders of the United States, for the first time since the beginning of the “Joe Biden” administration, the death of a Honduran immigrant teenager who is in custody has been confirmed.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, citing Efe news agency, the Honduran government yesterday expressed regret over the death of a 17-year-old teenager from this country who was in a detention center for illegal immigrants in Florida, the United States, and asked the American authorities to check the event.

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) then issued a statement confirming the death of this immigrant teenager and announcing: Officials are investigating the details of this case, including all the deceased’s hospitalization records.

The U.S. agency did not provide further details about the teen’s death, but noted that children in federal care have access to medical care, legal services and mental health counselors, and can also make phone calls to family members.

The Sputnik Mundo website quoted the media as saying that the teenager was staying at a shelter run by the federal government in the state of Florida (Southeastern United States) and was taken to a local hospital after he fell unconscious.

According to this report, one hour after this teenager arrived at the hospital, he was declared dead.

This is the first case of the death of an immigrant teenager in custody that has been recorded so far in the administration of the President of the United States, Joe Biden.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Honduras announced that President Xiomara Castro is waiting for the US government to confirm the date of visiting the country’s shelters where more than 2,000 unaccompanied children are housed.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Honduras, Castro’s visit aims to strengthen cooperation to prevent the separation of minors from their families and the occurrence of disasters of this type.

News of the teenager’s death comes as the United States introduces tough new asylum and deportation policies aimed at curbing illegal immigration after the expiration of the so-called Section 42 deportation policy (restrictions imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic) that expired at midnight last Thursday.

Florida is one of the states with a large Latino population, yet it has adopted stricter policies against illegal immigrants.

Last Monday, the Republican governor of Texas announced the deployment of several Blackhawk and C130 helicopters as part of a new tactical border force unit along the border with Mexico in order to deal with illegal immigrants.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard also criticized the approval of a bill based on which American lawmakers seek to intensify anti-immigration policies and resume the construction of the border wall.

According to Reuters, the US House of Representatives on Thursday passed a law requiring asylum seekers to apply outside the US.

Also, according to this plan, the construction of a border wall across the border between the United States and Mexico, which was previously promoted by Donald Trump, the counterpart of Biden’s predecessor, will resume.
