The Security Council condemned the killing of Shirin Abu Aqla

Pak Sahafat – The Security Council has condemned the killing of an Al-Jazeera journalist by Zionists and called for an immediate and impartial investigation into his death.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency from AFP, UN Security Council diplomats have unanimously condemned the killing of Al Jazeera-based Palestinian-American journalist Shirin Abu Aqla in the occupied West Bank.

The statement from the Security Council, which is a rare case of unity among members of the Security Council on a Zionist issue, also called for an “immediate, thorough, transparent and impartial investigation” into her death.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has also called for a full and independent inquiry into the killings, saying it could lead to war crimes.

According to diplomats, Friday’s talks in the Security Council were very difficult but came to fruition.

“Journalists must be protected as civilians,” the Security Council said in a statement.

Al-Jazeera correspondent Abu Aqla was shot dead by Israeli forces during a news coverage of a Zionist attack on a fetal refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. He wore a hat and a vest that clearly identified him as a journalist.

The Security Council requested that in addition to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s ongoing inspections in Iran that it monitors Iran’s compliance with “the steps required by the IAEA Board”.

Al-Jazeera condemned the attacks as “a scene that violates all international norms and laws.”

The Israeli military said initial investigations into Abu Aqla’s death indicated that there was heavy fighting in the fetus about 200 meters from where Abu Aqla was killed, but it was not clear whether he had been shot by Israeli forces.

Reporters accompanying Abu Aqla, including one who was shot and wounded, denied Zionist claims that there were no clashes or fighters in the area when she was killed.

Al Jazeera has accused Israel of “open murder” and called for an independent investigation into her death.

UN experts note that Abu Aqla’s assassination took place amid rising violence in the West Bank and occupied Gaza in recent years.

According to the statement, last year was the highest number of Palestinians killed as a result of confrontation with the Israelis since 2014. The high rate of attacks on Palestinian journalists is also alarming.
