The release of the results of the Centcom investigation into the explosion in the last days of the US military presence in Kabul

The commander of US terrorist forces in West Asia (Centcom) said that according to the results of the investigation into the explosion that took place in the last days of the US military presence in Kabul, only one person was directly involved in the explosion and only one explosive device was used.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency International Group, Gen. Frank Mackenzie, commander of the US Central Command for Terrorists in West Asia (Centcom), told a news conference on Friday that the results of the investigation into the August 26 bombing near Kabul airport had been determined.

Frank Mackenzie told reporters: “The investigation revealed that only one explosive device was used [in the incident]. The bombing was carried out by only one person, and contrary to initial official reports indicating that the attack was complex, it was not a complex bombing.”

He continued: At the time, the information we received indicated that a complex attack had taken place involving a suicide bomber and several ISIL-affiliated gunmen. But now we know that the bearings used in the explosive weapon also acted like bullets, increasing casualties. Also, the sound of warning shots [by the US military] has led some to think that a complex attack has taken place.

The senior US military official also spoke about the final death toll from the blast near Kabul airport: “At least 170,170 Afghan civilians and 13 US troops, including 11 Marines, a Marine and a Marine, were killed in the attack.”
