The first anti-Iranian sanctions of the Biden government

The US State Department has announced in a statement that it has imposed sanctions on two members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The administration of US President Joe Biden has imposed its first sanctions on Iran.

The State Department said in a statement that it had placed Ali Hemmatian and Massoud Safdari on the sanctions list for what they called “human rights abuses.”

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement: “At today’s meeting of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, we expressed our concern about the Iranian government’s mistreatment of its citizens, including the unjust detention of many citizens in deplorable conditions.”

Based on this claim, Blinken said that he had named two Revolutionary Guards officials, Ali Hemmatian and Massoud Safdarian, on the sanctions list for what he called a “gross violation of human rights.” The Secretary of State said that these people and their relatives will not be able to enter the United States.

The sanctions come as new US President Joe Biden says he is seeking to use diplomacy to preserve Burjam and return to the deal.

A few days ago, the Biden government extended the state of national emergency towards Iran in a letter to the Speakers of the House of Representatives and the US Senate.

Biden’s statement said: “The actions and policies of the Iranian government continue to be an extraordinary and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States.”
