The dismissal of the chief director of the US federal buildings on charges of corruption

Pak Sahafat – The President of the United States, Joe Biden, fired the chief director of the federal building complex (Congress complex) on charges of corruption.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, the Politico website reported that the White House fired Brett Blanton, the chief director of the Capitol complex (Congress), following revelations of his financial corruption. The buildings of the US House of Representatives and the US Senate are located in the Capitol complex, which has an area of 570 hectares.

The White House’s letter to Blanton stated very briefly and clearly that by direct order of Biden, Blanton’s responsibility will end on Monday evening (local time).

Blanton was fired 7 years before the end of his term under the pressure of congressional lawmakers. He is the target of a wave of criticism after exposing the misuse of financial resources that he had.

The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, had announced on Monday, before firing the architect of the Capitol, that Blanton was no longer trusted to continue his work and that he should resign or that Biden should quickly fire him.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Capitol Complex, or the so-called “Capitol Architect,” is responsible for the preservation and maintenance of modern and historic buildings and grounds on the Capitol grounds, as well as managing more than 2,000 employees. According to the “Capitol Architect” website, the area of this complex consists of about 1.7 million square meters of buildings and 570 hectares of land.

According to Politico, replacing someone as the architect of the Capitol is a time-consuming process that could take months or even years. A bipartisan commission from the Congress should be formed to propose candidates for this position to the President of the United States and then he chooses the person he wants from this list.

Blanton sits on three congressional police boards that make important security decisions for the complex.
