The cost of flood migration from Afghanistan to Iran, Tajikistan and Pakistan

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that accepting flood of migrants from Afghanistan, at best, would cost Tajikistan $ 100 million and Iran and Pakistan $ 300 million and $ 500 million, respectively.

According to the international group of Pak Sahaft News Agency, quoted by Reuters, the International Monetary Fund has warned that the economic consequences of the Afghan crisis will lead to an flood of migrants to neighboring countries, Turkey and Europe.

The agency estimates that Afghanistan’s economy will shrink by 30 percent this year, leading to millions of Afghans living in poverty, leading to a humanitarian catastrophe.

According to the International Monetary Fund, Afghanistan’s neighbors will be most affected by the process, while Tajikistan has warned it will no longer be able to accept asylum seekers.

From an economic point of view, the influx of asylum seekers is putting pressure on the public resources of the host countries, is a shock to the labor market, and ultimately will lead to social tensions.

Although it is not clear how much each of our neighbors bears, Tajikistan is estimated to cost $ 100 million, Iran $ 300 million and Pakistan $ 500 million, with an additional one million migrants per country.

The report highlights the need to provide international assistance to Afghanistan’s neighboring countries to receive asylum seekers, while other Central Asian countries, with the exception of Tajikistan, are reluctant to participate in accepting Afghan refugees.
